So Bad It’s Good
Documentary by Stéphane Bergouhnioux & Jean-Marie Nizan
52 min - Canal + Cinéma - 2018
Synopsis
Films sometimes become the subject a cult following with the churches, apostles and rites that go along with them. Viewers become fans and communities that come together and share their passions. Yet most of the time these films are “Z-movies” that nevertheless manage to find their audience and make a mark for on the history of pop culture. So Bad It’s Good, via documented interviews and excerpts from cult films such as The Room and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (and all the way to Showgirls), sets out to learn about the singular cult followings that develop for films so bad they become good. Razzies, masterpieces, or both? Such unusual sociological events unfailingly bring together thousands of spectators around the world and reveal the unalterable power of cinema.
