Divine Comedy, from the stage to the screen

Documentary by Stéphane Bergouhnioux, Anne-Solen Douguet & Jean-Marie Nizan
56 min - Canal+ Cinéma - 2015

Synopsis

For several months now, the Comédie-Française has been in cinemas. Its actors and actresses have been among the most successful at the box office, and their films loudly proclaim their headliners’ belonging to the house of Molière. Crossover adventures in theatre and the 7th art have been happening since the beginning of cinema, and the Comédie-Française and its troupe have been at the heart of this passionate relationship.

Divine Comédie, Des Planches A L’écran went behind the scenes at the Comédie-Française to meet the members of today’s troupe, which has always been at the heart of the relationship. Seeking balance between the richness and high standards of the Comédie-Française, on the one hand, and the realism and transience of cinema, on the other, everyone asks themselves tough questions about their art.
