Gardens, a paradise for artists

Documentary by Anne-Solen Douguet & Stéphane Bergouhnioux
52 min - Arte - 2017

Synopsis

Gardens are journeys through the world, the seasons and the ages. As both witnesses to and expressions of what humans know about nature, they appeal to all our senses. The arts have always tapped into this universal appeal to our collective imagination. Gardens have been and continue to be described, sung, painted, filmed and magnified by artists of all nationalities and all media.

From the perspective and the work of a few contemporary creators, and as part of the Jardins exhibit at the Grand Palais, Jardins, paradis des artistes tells a story about how gardens are represented in art.

Like Alice in Wonderland, this film is a stroll through the plant-filled, dreamlike world that has emerged from the imagination of creators of all origins and disciplines. A journey to the artist’s paradise.

With Coline Zellal, Peter Greenaway, Koichi Kurita, Giuseppe Penone, Pierre & Gilles, François Schuiten, Luzia Simons, Gregory Crewdson, Arnaud Maurières

Co-produced by Arte France, RMN-Grand Palais & Beall Productions.
